Don’t Feel Pressured to Choose Certain Specialties
Women have been traditionally drawn to pediatric dentistry, but women are needed in all specialties; don’t feel as though you need to conform to gender norms.
No matter what type of specialty you choose, you are able to excel with your unique experiences and perception. Clients also appreciate when they are able to see women specialists in their area, particularly if they have trauma that makes them hesitant to see a male practitioner. Women are also closing the gap on owning their own practices in recent years, which is exciting news for the dental industry.
You CAN Have it All
Women have historically been told that they can’t have both a career and a family. Women in dentistry do a fantastic job of juggling responsibilities at home and their career.
You may find that you hear a lot of comments from people about maintaining a work-life balance, but women in dentistry are able to have an incredible career with regular working hours, and often find family life much more manageable than they would have if they had chosen a different path.
Although it can be difficult to juggle work with any type of working environment, dentistry is one of the more flexible industries when it comes to working hours and maternity leave.
